Do you have a With-Profits policy?

Most people review their credit cards and mortgages on a regular basis, but few review their with-profits investments. It is estimated that there are over 10 million policies in the UK at the moment, most of which have never been reviewed. We have introduced a With-Profits review service to assist our clients who have with-profits pensions and With-Profits investment bonds.

With-Profits Policies

With-Profits investments were once the obvious choice for investors, but times change. Most of us will remember the problems that Equitable Life had, and the more recent Northern Rock problem, was not easy to predict. In an effort to protect investors, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) guides insurers on how With-Profits funds should be invested. Some products offer good guarantees, but these have to be accounted for and this can affect the returns you might receive. By contrast, policies without guarantees can be free of these constraints and have the potential to perform well. To complete the picture, some policies offer no guarantees and as a result of the weakness of the insurer, offer potentially low returns without the security you require. Each policy should be treated on its merits and our with-profits review service is designed to meet this need. Inshore IFA Ltd reviews will normally take the following form:

  1. Firstly, you need to ask us to review your policy or policies.
  2. We will then discuss your requirements and confirm your aspirations from the policy and your attitude to investment risk.
  3. With your written authority, we will contact the insurer to obtain up to date details of your policy.
  4. We will then analyse your policy in relation to your requirements and produce a report on your policy.
  5. Finally we will make a recommendation regarding the suitability of your With-Profits policy going forward and, if necessary, suggest an alternative arrangement.
